The Lakehouse at Sypher Cove, N.B.

Despite all the R&R during our stay at Grand Lake, Pat and I were actually pretty occupied most days with the construction of our retirement home at Sypher Cove. First there was the actual address to determine through the Minto Post Office, then two lots had to be consolidated into one before the plot plan could proceed and before any building could begin. We met may times with our builder, Dwight, who lives in Douglas Harbour and who came highly recommended to us. We liked his work and visited other projects he has done in the past. We came to an agreement and work began around Labour Day weekend with clearing of the lot followed by the surveyors who pinned the many corners. We spent many days in and out of Fredericton with the various sub-contractors in order to settle on windows, doors, flooring, paint colours, roof style, lights, fireplace insert, kitchen design, etc. The house is slated to be completed on April 30th, 2010 in order for us to move our worldly goods out of three storage areas and into the house! This gives us over three full months to fine-tune any aspects which need work prior to Steph and Lou's wedding next August! There will be lots of bedrooms now that we have a walk-out basement, so please drop by for a visit sometime!

In his spare time, Pat cut a wood pile and cleaned up the pines in front of the house

Hi Kathie! Barbara from Atlanta is trying to get back in touch with you. (Your old buddy back in the Goethe Institute days of Blaubeuren, Germany) Sorry I lost you for a few years. Hope we can get back in touch. I have never blogged before. Do you have an email address where I could reach you?

Barbara! I can't believe you were reading my blog...I'm sure it has been ages since you wrote your comment (there are never any dates shown) but if you are still out there in cyberspace, you can reach me at:

It would be great to reconnect with you after all these years...I often think of you whenever we fly through Atlanta (which has been frequently over the past few years). xox
